END OF SUMMER.... BUMMER BIKE JAM

The End Of Summer Bummer bike jam went extremely well yesterday afternoon. At least 50 people showed up to Newington skate park to ride along with a whole bunch of spectators. I got up there a little late due to a traffic incident but got there none the less. AMERICA! Once I got there we set up the grill and started cooking. The food was devoured fast. Everyone got lined up for the bunny hop contest announced by guest celebrity Big Ben McCarthy from Hartford Hardcore. Big thanks to Ben for the amusing commentary. Tom Kalmanidis took first place with an amazing hop of 40 inches! Second place went to James Nelson who cleared 39 inches and was struggling for that last inch. Afterwards everyone kept riding until the sun started to set. After a quick clean up effort myself and Tony spread out all sorts of free product in the adjacent baseball field and had a free-for-all bum rush style product hunt. Thanks to everyone who showed up, helped out, cleaned up and had fun. Ryan    for the rest of the photos go to http://www.ridetyrant.com/ thank you Tony Tyant

Way Back Wednesday!!

RAD!!!!
This film's for the BMX bike racers of the world. A small town is out to raise funds by building a BMX racetrack and sponsoring a major race. They sponsor their own small-town hero Cru (Bill Allen) who's up against the big-monied sponsor's champion Bart Taylor (played by Olympic gymnast-turned-actor, Bart Thomas). Bart's the bad guy here, who doesn't play by the rules. The film's highlights are found in the stunt-filled race sequences, where the two duel it out on their high-flying two wheelers.    This movie is the best. If you ride you will love it. True classic

Lance Mountain

Robert Lance Mountain (born June 13, 1964) was one of the more popular skateboarders throughout much of the 1980s, and one of the five most legendary members of the Bones Brigade, as featured in the 1987 classic The Search For Animal Chin.
Mountain was born in Pasadena, California. When contests were the main judge of status in the skateboarding world, Mountain was a top competitor during street skating's first phase, but he specialized at riding vert (on ramps and in pools), where he also regularly placed in the top five. Mountain was first sponsored by Variflex in 1981 before joining Powell Peralta a year later, where he formed a strong friendship with Stacy Peralta, the team leader and director of the Bones Brigade video series.
Mountain gained further eminence when he won the Upland Turkey Shoot at Upland Skatepark in 1983, against tough competition from fellow team riders Steve Caballero, Mike McGill and Tony Hawk. This was followed by Mountain acting as the backdrop of skateboarding's first, full length company video, The Bones Brigade Video Show, from 1984. In it, Mountain serves as the segue for all the vert and freestyle parts as he skateboards around Los Angeles, showcasing street skating in its infancy as a legitimate discipline.
In the early 90's, the skateboard industry went through a major shifts street skating overtook vertical skateboarding as the dominant discipline, and the popularity of the Bones Brigade faltered as the next wave of skaters made a name for themselves. He left Powell Peralta and started his own skateboard company, "The Firm" in 1991 with notable skateboarders including Bob Burnquist, and Ray Barbee. On March 13, 2006, Lance Mountain announced the end of The Firm. He is now riding for Flip Skateboards, in addition to Independent Trucks, and Stüssy clothing. On May 7, 2007, Nike SB announced the addition of Mountain to their team. Lance is still killing it and skating a lot just check out his part in the newest Flip video. Lance will always inspire us.

Way Back Wednesday--John Tomac!!

John Tomac was still a youngster when he began winning bike races. The Owosso, Michigan native won his first major event at the age of 16, becoming the National BMX Cruiser Class Champion in 1984. He won an XC World Championship in 1991 and is a ten time National Champion. From BMX, to road, to DH and XC mountain bike racing, Tomac is the most versatile cyclist to ever ride a bicycle. With his Kamikaze win in 2005, his cycling career has stretched over 20 years.
1984: A 16 year old Tomac wins his first major race, a National BMX Cruiser Class Title. Tomac rides for the Factory Mongoose Team.
1985: Tomac turns pro at age 17 and races only one year as a privateer in the pro ranks.
1986: Tomac moves from Michigan to Southern California and starts riding and racing Mongoose mountain bikes full time. His first major win happens in the fall of 1986, when he wins The Ross Fat Tire Stage Race in Massachusetts. He also wins the L.A. Coliseum Supercross Mountain Bike Exhibition Race.
1988: Tomac wins the NORBA World Mountain Bike Championships overall title at mammoth. This title was won by earning the most points in DH, XC, and Slalom. Tomac also becomes the USCF National Criterium Champion on the road, the NORBA National XC Champion, the NORBA Dual Slalom World Champion, and wins at Stage at the Tour of the Rockies. Still in Mongoose on dirt, Tomac rides for the Sunkyong and Celestial Seasoning’s team on the road.
1989: Another pheonomenal year for Tomac, he again wins the NORBA World Mountain Bike Championships overall title, but adds the NORBA Downhill World Championship, European XC World Championship, German National XC Championship and a USCF National Team Time Trial Championship in road to his belt.
1990: JT races both the road and mountain bikes again in 1990, with two major team contracts. His mountain bike contract is with Yeti and his road contact is with the 7-11 pro team. Tomac is living in Belgium, traveling back and forth from the US to Europe to race NORBA National events, major US road events, World Cup mountain bike events, and also major road racing events in Europe. Tomac races over 100 events this year, including the Tour of Flanders, the Tour of Italy and Paris-Roubaix. He finishes in the top 20 at Ghent-Wevelgem. On the mountain side, JT wins the World Mountain Bike Championships overall title. At the Durango World Championships, he finishes 4th place in the DH event on a Yeti C-26 with "drop bars" and with first generation Manitou mountain bike forks.
1991: Another busy year for Tomac, he changes sponsors on both the road and the mountain sides. On dirt, he begins his stint at Raleigh, and on the road signs for the Motorola professional road team. Tomac wins the World Championship in XC in Ciocco, Italy and finishes second in DH. He also is the UCI World Cup XC Champion, NORBA National DH Champion and wins two World Cups in XC.
1992: After a stellar mountain bike season in 1991, Tomac decides to devote all of his attention to mountain bikes. Still riding for Raleigh, he finishes second in UCI World Cup Overall XC points, wins two XC World Cups in Belgium and Switzerland and finishes 5th at the World Championships in DH. Johnny T hit a spectator at Mount Snow, 3 minutes ahead half way through the race, and a spectator ran across the course and Johnny tacoed his wheel, stayed in, got back up to second and Frishy won the World Cup championship because of it.
1993: Tomac and Raleigh introduce a signature John Tomac racing bike. Litespeed made the front head lug and rear triangle that was mated to the carbon main tubes. The bike was decked out in full Tomac-sponsor gear from Tioga, RockShox, Shimano, Grafton and Grip Shift. This bike retailed for $6300 in 1993 and there were approximately 60 made. Tomac finishes second in UCI World Cup Overall DH points, second in NORBA National XC Series points and wins a DH World Cup in Canada and two NORBA National XC races (Indiana and Michigan).
1994: Tomac comes back strong again in 1994, winning the NORBA National DH Championship, and the Cactus Cup and Sea Otter Stage races. He also manages an XC World Cup win in Spain. He races the majority of the season on Raleigh, but near the end of the year, make the move to Giant.
1996: Tomac again races both the DH and XC series in 1996 and wins the NORBA National XC Championship. His season in DH also goes well: he is fourth in NORBA National DH points at the end of the season. Another highlight of the year is that he wins the Olympic Qualification XC race in Georgia.
1997: Tomac follows up a great 1996 with an unbelievable season, winning the NORBA National DH Championship and finishing 2nd at Worlds behind Nicolas Vouilloz. He’s fifth in overall World Cup points at the end of the season, and wins a stunner World Cup final DH race in Austria. He also manages to snag the Washington NORBA National Dual Slalom win. 1998 & 1999: Tomac gets together with friend Doug Bradbury and starts Tomac. They design a new DH bike, called the Magnum 204, but injuries plaque Johnny

Green Mtn Bound

Mell and I went up to skate and hang out Craig’s brother Nick up at Podium snow and skate this past weekend. We got up there late Friday night and skated through the weekend. Woke up Saturday morning and headed over to the Bondville bowl witch is amazing and skated for a few hours. After the bowl we met up with Nick at Podium and headed over to a game of skate that Vermont Skateboards was putting on. The game had close to 40 kids enter and everyone was pretty damn good. But that didn't stop CE team rider Mell from placing 3rd and winning a bunch of stuff. We left the contest area and went to an after party that I won't ever forget. It was at Bato's place and the bonfire ramp session was on. The ramp had super tight transitions with pool coping and was a blast the fire was close to 15feet tall at times and a lot of people showed up. Sunday came around and we had to skate the Bondville bowl again since we had so much fun the day before and then it was off to Wakers Acers a 30foot wide mini ramp with various different heights spine and 3 different extensions. Awesome trip can't wait to do it again. If you ever find yourself in Manchester VT definatly stop by Podium and say what’s up to Nick and check out his shop its rad. Ryan

Haro Roscoe

With all the emphasis on “going green” and reducing our carbon footprints, why not start riding a bike? Haro's Metro series makes bicycle commuting a breeze. With triple chainrings up front, you’ll be able to tackle most any hill with ease. Tires with reflective sidewalls and a seatpost with a built-in blinking tail light help make you more visible to drivers in low-light conditions. When you have to venture off the dirt and onto the pavement, a Metro bike is a perfect choice for your urban adventure.

Way Back Wednesday

In the fad-filled 1980s, it's no surprise to find a film completely dedicated to the sport of skating, especially when the sport lends so well to playing a score of hit songs to sell the soundtrack. At its essence, Thrashin' isn't much more than The Karate Kid on skateboards, complete with a gang of bullies, plenty of sabotaging, a love interest that is all but completely forbidden to the hero, and a tournament showdown for the respect of everyone involved.
I've watched this movie tons of times, and recomend you watching it too.
Josh Brolin (The Goonies, Flirting with Disaster) stars as Cory Webster, a teenager in San Fernando Valley who loves to skate, but he and his boys (known as the "Ramp Locals") are constantly belittled by a gang of skaters called the "Daggers", led by the emotionally erratic, but highly talented, Tommy Hook (Rusler, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2). Cory ends up meeting and falling for Chrissy (Gidley, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me), fresh from the Midwest, but complications arise when he finds out she is Tommy's sister, and the Dagger doesn't want her seeing anyone from the lowly valley. They are all set to compete in a big skateboarding downhill race that would garner the winner $1,000 and a big endorsement deal with a skateboard manufacturer. The fight for skate supremacy, as well as for Christy's loyalty, makes everyone put what they have on the line.Qwipster
